Why you are shopping for a Mac charger

In France, the M5 power adapter is sold separately. You just bought a MacBook Air or Pro and now you need a Mac charger among dozens of USB-C blocks that all claim “MacBook compatible”.

See also the French guide chargeur Mac. Use this page to match wattage, port and brand to your machine. If you already know the model, jump to the MacBook charger comparison.

Why there is no charger in the box

In France and the UK, the M5 power adapter is sold separately; a cable is in the box.

In practice, most people still need a new Mac charger — and the wrong wattage means a slow charge or a laptop that drains while you work. Check MacBook charger wattage before you buy. If you already know the machine, jump to MacBook Air M1–M5 or MacBook Pro 16.

Ports: USB-C, MagSafe 3, older MagSafe

    Wattage by Mac

A MacBook charger that is too weak will trickle-charge. Too strong is fine if it is USB-C PD.

Why I still recommend Apple chargers

They cost more. You are paying for a quiet, boring brick that just works.

    • Perfect handshake — no “not charging” surprises
    • Thermal design — stays reasonable under load
    • Finish and cable — lasts years on a desk
    • Support — Apple Store replacement if it fails

    Serious alternatives (UGREEN, Anker, Belkin)

Need more ports or a smaller travel brick? That is where a compatible Mac charger wins — if it is PD-certified. Details in the comparison and the multi-port Mac charger page.

    • UGREEN Nexode 65W / 100W — compact GaN, several ports
    • Anker 735 GaNPrime 65W — compact travel brick
    • Belkin BoostCharge — USB-C PD, desk-friendly

    Mac charger FAQ

Yes as a stopgap, but it will be very slow. An iPhone charger is usually 20W, which is not enough to charge a MacBook efficiently.

Yes. Thanks to USB Power Delivery, the Mac only draws what it needs. A higher-wattage charger will not damage the machine.

Not if they are certified (PD, CE). Skip no-name bricks. Prefer UGREEN, Anker, or Belkin as alternatives.
