    The real question

Apple no longer includes a Mac charger. So you choose: official Apple brick, or a compatible charger at half the price? Often yes, the official one is worth it. Not always. It depends on ports, travel, and how much peace of mind you want.

This page sits next to the MacBook charger comparison and the 2026 Mac charger guide. Official wattage ladder: Apple USB-C charger. Use those for models; use this page for the Apple-versus-third-party call.

Why Apple remains the safe default

Apple chargers cost more. They also tick every “I do not want to think about it” box:

    1. Native handshake

Plug in, it charges. The 35W Dual USB-C will feed an Air and an iPhone without drama.

    2. Thermal behaviour

The 96W stays reasonable on a Pro 14" under load. That is the boring excellence you pay for.

    3. Finish

Matte brick, decent cable. After years on a desk it still looks like a Mac accessory.

    4. Support

Apple Store swap if it dies. No marketplace argument about “compatible with MacBook”.

When a compatible Mac charger is the better buy

Not every third-party brick is equal. UGREEN, Anker and Belkin make PD-certified chargers that are sometimes more practical than Apple’s one-port blocks. Match wattage on the wattage page and skip anything without CE/PD.

    Price

A GaN brick is often cheaper than the official adapter, but this page does not list prices. Check them on Amazon before you buy.

    Ports

Apple: 1 or 2 ports. UGREEN Nexode: several USB-C + USB-A — Mac, iPhone and AirPods on one brick.

    Form factors

    • ✓ Travel minis (Anker Nano, UGREEN Mini)
    • ✓ Desk stations (UGREEN Zapix 200W)
    • ✓ GaN: less heat, smaller size — see ports & GaN

    Apple vs compatible FAQ

No, if it is certified Power Delivery (PD), CE, and so on. What damages batteries is poor voltage regulation.

Apple does not void the warranty for a third-party charger that meets the specs. An official Apple charger simply avoids the debate.

They are often uncertified, with cheap internals. Avoid them.

    Remember

    • Apple: total calm, Apple price
    • UGREEN / Anker / Belkin: extra ports, travel size, or a tighter budget
    • Certification (PD, CE) and the right wattage matter more than the logo
