Official Apple USB-C charger: which one to buy

You want the official Apple USB-C brick — not a lookalike. This page maps 20W to 140W, where to buy without a fake, and which wattage matches which Mac. See also the French chargeur USB-C Apple page.

Prices are not listed here: check them on Amazon before you buy.

Why people still buy the official brick

Official Apple chargers cost more. You pay for a boring handshake, a quiet thermal profile, and an Apple Store swap if it dies. That is the whole pitch. If you want extra ports or a smaller GaN block, read Apple vs compatible first — then come back here for the official wattage ladder.

Apple warranty (typically one year) and Store replacement.

Certified electrical safety. No marketplace lottery.

Wattage calibrated for the Mac that shipped with that brick.

Finish and cable that last years on a desk.

    Wattage ladder

A stronger USB-C PD charger will not fry a smaller Mac. The Mac only draws what it needs. A weaker charger will trickle — or stall under load. Full table on MacBook charger wattage.

    20W

iPhone / iPad — too weak as a daily Mac charger

    30–35W

13" Air: 30W minimum. 15" Air: 35W minimum. Fast charge on M2 through M5: 70W or higher, or Apple's 67W adapter on 13.6-inch models. The M1 Air is not on Apple's fast-charge list.

    60–96W

    14" M5: 60W minimum (70W for M5 Pro/Max), fast charge at 96W or higher

    140W

    16" Pro from 2021: 140W USB-C recommended (M5 Pro/Max: 140W minimum)

The 140W card is the Apple 140W adapter. The cable may be sold separately: check the listing.

Where to buy without a fake

    Apple Store / Apple.com

    Official price. Zero seller ambiguity.

    Amazon — sold by Apple

Prefer the Apple Store seller. Third-party “Apple compatible” listings are not the same product.

    Known retailers

Fnac, Boulanger, John Lewis, Best Buy — pick the shop you already trust in your country.

    How to avoid counterfeits

Skip exotic marketplaces and “too cheap” bricks with no serial.

Check the box, weight, finish, and logos against an Apple Store unit if you can.

The real adapter has an engraved serial and a clear CE mark.

    Apple USB-C FAQ

Apple box, CE mark, engraved serial, and “Designed by Apple in California”. Buy from Apple, a known retailer, or Amazon sold by Apple.

Apple Store, Apple.com, or Amazon when the seller is Apple. Skip marketplace listings with a too-good price and no serial.

    20W for iPhone/iPad, 30W (13" Air) or 35W (15" Air). 13" Pro: 61W (the adapter Apple recommends; the M2 shipped with a 67W). 14" Pro M5: 60W minimum (70W for M5 Pro/Max), fast charge at 96W or higher. 96W (16" Intel 2019) or 140W USB-C (16" Pro from 2021). A higher-wattage USB-C PD brick will not damage a smaller Mac.

Not always. Many Apple adapters ship without a cable. Check the Amazon title before you buy.

Not if it is certified USB-C Power Delivery and well made. Apple will not warranty the third-party brick. See Apple vs compatible.

    Official brick, or extra ports?

If you already know you want Apple, pick wattage above. If you want GaN and more ports, open the comparison.
